TFAWS 2018 Host Center

NASA’s Johnson Space Center has been a leader in human space exploration for more than half a century. As the nucleus of the nation’s astronaut corps and home to International Space Station mission operations, the Orion crew and a host of future space developments, the center plays a pivotal role in human space exploration and enhancing technological and scientific knowledge to benefit all of humankind. Established in 1961 on nearly 1,700 acres southeast of downtown Houston as the Manned Spacecraft Center, the center was renamed in 1973 to honor the late president and Texas native, Lyndon B. Johnson. From the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs to the International Space Station and Orion, the center has been at the forefront of America’s human spaceflight programs. Johnson’s nearly 10,000-person workforce helps bolster NASA’s standing as an institution where creative and talented problem solvers push the boundaries of explorations innovation

Local Transportation

For those from out of town: The San Luis Resort and Galveston Island Convention Center are approximately 40 miles from Houston’s Hobby Airport (HOU) and 70 miles from Houston’s George Bush Airport (IAH). It is highly recommended that individuals fly into Hobby (HOU) if at all possible. We also recommend that individuals either find carpooling opportunities, use Uber or Lift, or refer any local transportation service such as Galveston Limo to assist in streamlining the trip to Galveston.

Once at the resort, you will be welcomed with free parking. Although only less than 0.5 mile from the Galveston Island Convention Center, daily shuttle services will be available for TFAWS 2018.

For those from the Houston Area: The TFAWS planning committee is hard at work in making this event as successful as ever. We are currently working with JSC Transportation to schedule daily shuttles from JSC to the Galveston Island Convention Center for TFAWS 2018. For those who will be driving, free parking will be available at the convention center. To enable your attendance at TFAWS, we have also set aside multiple breakout rooms at the convention center for any unforeseen work related needs.
