The TFAWS 2024 Planning Committee is excited to provide a range of activities this year!
The deadline for tour and event sign-ups has now passed, but there’s still hope! Guardians tickets can be purchased directly and we have a waitlist for the Sunset Dinner Boat Cruise. See the sections for these activities below for details.
Note: Lunches will be sold concession style at TFAWS this year, so, unlike previous years, there will not be prepaid lunches. There is no need to sign up for the Welcome Reception or Monday Evening Networking Event.
Welcome Reception (Sunday, August 25)
Come to the Hilton for early check-in and then join us at Eliot’s Bar on the second floor for some networking on Sunday Evening!
Networking Event (Monday, August 26)
Join us at the Southern Tier Brewery! It will be a great time to enjoy some beverages and bond with fellow Thermal Fluidians!
Cleveland Guardians Baseball Game (Tuesday, August 27)
Join us at Progressive Field on Tuesday, August 27 at 6:40pm for networking and fun as the Guardians face their division rival the Kansas City Royals! Please know that guests of attendees are welcome!
The window for discount tickets has closed, but there is still time to buy tickets directly from the Guardians here! We will be in lower reserve section 129, so find a seat near your TFAWS friends and come enjoy a game at this beautiful ballpark!
Banquet Dinner (Wednesday, August 28)
Join us along the picturesque Lake Erie shoreline at the inspiring Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC) for our annual TFAWS 2024 Banquet Dinner. The GLSC also houses the NASA Glenn Research Center Visitors Center, offering a unique glimpse into NASA’s history. From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, guests can enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail hour while exploring exhibits about NASA and the Glenn Research Center.
Dinner will be held in the GLSC Promenade, where guests can enjoy sunset views of the lake. The evening’s activities will include remarks from the TFAWS Chair, student poster awards, an address by our keynote speakers, and much more. Don’t miss this memorable event!

Sunset Dinner Boat Cruise (Thursday, August 29)
All attendees and guests are welcome to come aboard the Lady Caroline for a sunset dinner boat cruise along the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie coast on Thursday, August 29 from 7:00-9:30pm (boarding begins at 6:00pm). The boat cruise will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet and cash bar. Vegan options will be available upon request. Don’t miss this special opportunity to watch the sun set over Lake Erie with a view of the historic Cleveland skyline.

Glenn Research Center Tours
We are happy to offer tours of two facilities this year! Our main campus, Lewis Field, and our remote campus, Armstrong Test Facility.
Dates and Times:
- Both tours are currently full and waitlist sign-ups have ended.
- Lewis Field: Thursday: 8/29, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm
- Armstrong Test Facility: Friday 8/30, 8 am – 1 pm
Attendees will be picked up from the Hilton and bused to and from the tours. Buses will depart from and return to the hotel at the times listed above.
